Conclusion
At the onset of this project the heterogeneous nature of the partnership -
French Guyana working with the homeless, Slovakia with workers and Italy with women’s reconciliation of
family and work life – represented a big question mark.
The common thread of social exclusion that
wound them together right from the start did nothing to hide the difficulties posed by such
heterogeneity. The three years of work that followed showed however great cooperation among the
partners, thus ensuring not only concrete results but also a deep-set commitment and great
enthusiasm.
The initial difficulty of having to relate with realities and visions that were so far apart in
the field social exclusion proved, in the end, a challenge that led to great discoveries and much
sharing.
The three meetings, the three exchange visits that took place in French Guyana, Slovakia and Italy
respectively were moments to exchange methodologies on how to combat discrimination, social
exclusion.
On these occasions all interested operators were always in attendance, local and regional
public institutions, and social partners, to cooperate and commit towards a strategy for action in each
of the various sectors of interest.
These moments proved to be actual working “workshops”, that have allowed the effective and detailed
re-creation, study and examination of situations in order to deal concretely with the problems related
to the issue of exclusion.
Here the causes were analyzed and the instruments to face new situations
were thought out.
All interested actors were mobilized, thus enabling a common approach – each for its area of
competence – to facing problems of inequality.
Close cooperation has enabled the dissemination of information on the activities performed on a vast
scale. Each partner’s best practices (……..) became the object of study and a principle of
transferability for the new services to be set up to combat social discrimination.
This has allowed for a common strategy, a detailed work plan and the full responsibility of all the
partners involved.
The partnership proved very effective precisely because everyone participated in full in decision
making and implementation.
In conclusion, it can be stated that transnational cooperation was an extraordinary human, as well as
study and research experience. It can be regarded as a first effort to define common objectives and
find unexpected solutions to combat inequalities and discrimination.
Hopefully in the future there will be room to continue exploring and experimenting to validate
innovative solutions.
